Direct social support targets poverty alleviation and promotes economic inclusion in Morocco.
The Director General of the National Agency for Social Support, Wafaa Jamali, affirmed that the aim of the direct social support program is to combat the causes of poverty and vulnerability and to achieve productive inclusion for beneficiaries, thereby contributing to integrated regional development in line with royal directives.
Jamali noted that the program targets approximately 5.5 million children and 1.7 million elderly individuals from low-income families. She emphasized that the agency worked in 2025 to establish the foundations of its operations by investing in resources and mechanisms to manage this initiative and enhance its impact in the medium and long term.
In this context, the agency’s board of directors, chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch in Rabat, approved the work plan for 2026, underscoring the importance of this system as a fundamental component in the project of expanding social protection overseen by King Mohammed VI.
Akhannouch stressed that the direct social support system represents a qualitative shift in addressing the needs of vulnerable groups by moving from temporary approaches to an institutional framework based on precise targeting, achieving social justice, and ensuring efficiency in resource allocation.
During the meeting, the Director General presented the agency’s performance report for 2025, which included the implementation of the action plan, an increase in the value of support amounts, activation of assistance for orphans and neglected children residing in social care institutions, and the establishment of mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating performance to measure the program’s impact on reducing poverty and vulnerability.
It was also decided to open a new regional representation in the El Jadida province as part of an approach aimed at enhancing proximity to beneficiaries and entrenching both the human and regional dimensions, making direct social support a lever for economic and social empowerment through accompanying programs that respond to the specific socio-spatial conditions of beneficiary families.
