Compensation for Farmers and Enhanced Monitoring to Fight Bovine Tuberculosis and Ensure Milk Quality
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water, and Forests has revealed the results of the national program to combat bovine tuberculosis, confirming the continuation of health measures and compensation for affected farmers, as part of efforts to ensure the quality and safety of milk and its derivatives.
The ministry explained that the program relies on regular disease detection within farms through veterinary examinations and diagnostic tests, with immediate health measures taken in case of reported infections. This includes isolating or destroying infected cattle according to established standards.
Authorities have approved financial compensation for farmers whose livestock is culled, to mitigate the economic impact on them and to encourage reporting of disease cases and cooperation with veterinary services, helping to reduce the spread of infection within the national herd.
The aim of this program is to improve animal health and enhance the productivity of the dairy sector, alongside ensuring the quality of products intended for consumption, in line with health safety requirements and monitoring standards.
The ministry also confirmed that these measures are part of a comprehensive strategy to upgrade the milk production chain, by strengthening health monitoring within farms and collection centers, and instilling best practices in husbandry, nutrition, and hygiene, thus ensuring consumer health and supporting the sustainability of the sector.
