The Australian government has begun studying a new bill that would prohibit entry for individuals coming from Egypt and several other Islamic countries deemed “terror hotspots” by authorities. This move aims to tighten immigration policy and enhance national security.
According to Australian media sources, the draft includes more than 12 countries and regions, such as Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, Palestine, and the Philippines, with particular focus on specific high-risk areas in Egypt. The law also proposes a suspension of visa issuance from these regions for up to three years, as reported by local media like Sky News and News.com Australia.
Angus Taylor, leader of the Liberal Party, stated in an interview on the “Sunrise” program that the goal of this new policy is to protect Australian national values. He emphasized, “We believe in freedom of expression and religion. Those who do not respect these values should not enter our country.”
Deputy party leader Jane Hume highlighted the importance of skilled immigration, asserting that immigrants should contribute to society and the economy, not just adhere to democracy and the rule of law.
This approach comes amid a global tightening on immigration, with the United States and the United Kingdom having previously imposed restrictions on entry from certain countries for security reasons, in attempts to ensure safety and protect societal stability.
