Algeria officially announces its support for Iran while ignoring Tehran’s bombardment of Arab territories
On Friday, February 28, 2026, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing full solidarity with Iran. Algeria condemned the attack launched by both the United States and Israel on Iranian territory, describing it as a “flagrant violation of the sovereignty of a member state of the United Nations.”
Algeria’s position notably disregards the unfolding events, as it was issued just hours after several Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Kuwait, and Qatar, condemned the Iranian bombings of their territories. This stark contrast reflects a clear divide in addressing the escalating tensions in the region.
Despite Algeria emphasizing in its statement that “any escalation threatening regional stability must be confronted,” this stance reinforces the persistent policy of the Algerian military regime in supporting Tehran. It clearly highlights Algeria’s alignment as one of Iran’s main footholds in Africa, further solidifying a murky approach in its foreign policy, which deviates from the traditional Arab consensus on vital regional issues.
