Albares: Moroccan-Spanish relations are “the strongest in the world” and experiencing their best historical moments
The Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union, and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, stated that the relationship between Spain and Morocco is among “the strongest in the world,” emphasizing that the ties between Madrid and Rabat are currently at their “best historical moment.” In an interview with the newspaper “El Periódico,” the head of Spanish diplomacy explained that this deep partnership reflects a positive and comprehensive outcome of bilateral cooperation between the two kingdoms.
Albares highlighted the strength of economic exchanges, which have reached record levels, with trade volume between the two countries valued at 21 billion euros, reflecting the growing dynamics of shared interests. In terms of security, he praised the “exemplary” cooperation in both police and judicial matters, asserting that close coordination is crucial for the effective management of irregular migration flows and the enhancement of mutual security.
In the context of strategic projects, the minister described the joint organization of the 2030 World Cup, along with Portugal, as a “major lever” for enhancing regional rapprochement and cooperation. Albares concluded his remarks by pointing to the human and cultural dimension of this relationship, noting that Morocco hosts the largest network of the Cervantes Institute in the world, representing the vitality of exchanges and the close bonds between the Spanish and Moroccan communities.
