Akhannouch Leads a New Drive for Green Hydrogen Investments, Putting Southern Projects on Track for Implementation

On Thursday, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch met in Rabat with delegations representing national and international investors selected to execute major projects in the field of green hydrogen. This marks a practical step towards Morocco’s ambition to join the ranks of leading countries in this strategic sector.

The meeting, attended by Tarik Amzian Mfidhal, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen), was dedicated to supporting the post-signing phase of the preliminary contracts related to the reservation of public land. This follows the selection of projects by the steering committee responsible for the so-called “Moroccan Offer” for green hydrogen.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the executive authority’s commitment to providing the necessary conditions to expedite the realization of these investments, asserting that the “Moroccan Offer” was not designed as a political slogan but as a comprehensive practical framework covering various stages of the value chain, from production to industrial processing and export.

Akhannouch highlighted that the focus on green hydrogen is central to strategic choices led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at enhancing the kingdom’s energy sovereignty by leveraging the natural resources available in the country, especially in renewable energies, along with national competencies and the ability to build balanced and sustainable investment partnerships.

According to the data presented during the meeting, the interested investors plan to undertake five major structural projects distributed across the three southern regions of the kingdom, selected through a process described as scientific and transparent. Additionally, the allocation of public land intended for these projects is subject to a precise legal mechanism that ensures its protection and proper utilization, given the strategic nature of these investments.

This development reinforces Morocco’s position as an emerging player in the global energy transition landscape at a time when there is increasing international demand for clean and sustainable energy alternatives, particularly green hydrogen.
