From the platform of the extraordinary conference of the National Rally of Independents, Aziz Akhannouch chose to send political messages that go beyond the moment of internal organization, placing the party’s path and options at the heart of a broader discussion about the meaning of political responsibility during what he described as a sensitive phase in Morocco’s history.
Akhannouch emphasized, in his speech to the conference attendees, that his constant presence in the party’s milestones has never been tied to positions or titles, but rather comes from a deep conviction in party work as an ethical commitment before it is an organizational position. He reminded everyone that his leadership of the party emerged in a critical context that required, in his words, a high degree of discipline and clarity of vision.
Regarding his decision not to run for another term, the party leader clarified that making way for Mohamed Chouki, the only candidate to succeed him, is not a mere formality, but a conscious choice that falls within the logic of continuity, prioritizing the organization’s interests over personal considerations, asserting that the rotation of responsibility remains a fundamental condition to maintain the vitality of political action.
Akhannouch highlighted the value-based aspect of politics, stating that genuine and selfless practice makes it a noble endeavor serving the public good, especially amidst internal transformations and rapid international fluctuations. He called on political actors to rise to the challenges of this phase, mobilizing available resources to serve the nation, stressing that the essence of politics remains tied to responding to citizens’ expectations.
In discussing the governmental experience, he noted that citizens’ trust has always been a fundamental pillar of the party’s work, which has placed the current majority under doubled responsibility for sound management and adherence to a collective work ethos. He emphasized that the current phase necessitates a cohesive majority operating in a unified team spirit, away from internal conflicts that he said have weakened government performance in previous experiences.
Akhannouch concluded his speech by referring to what he described as the fruits of governmental harmony, asserting that this cohesion has allowed the country to tackle complex international challenges and maintain stability in major choices amid a region and international environment characterized by significant turmoil and uncertainty.
