India and the UAE Sign $3 Billion LNG Agreement to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

India and the United Arab Emirates have taken a significant step in enhancing their bilateral relations by signing a $3 billion agreement concerning the purchase of liquefied natural gas (LNG) during the visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to New Delhi on Monday.

Under the agreement, ADNOC Gas, the state-owned company, will supply approximately 0.5 million tons of LNG annually to India through Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, starting from 2028 and continuing for ten years. The total commitments from ADNOC to India under this contract exceed $20 billion, making New Delhi the largest customer for the Emirati group.

The collaboration between the two countries extends beyond the gas sector, encompassing discussions on advanced civil nuclear energy partnerships, including large and small modular reactors, in addition to safety and maintenance issues.

Both Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the UAE President praised the ongoing progress in trade volumes since the activation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2022, highlighting that the bilateral trade reached a record high of $100 billion during the fiscal year 2024-2025.

Looking forward, India and the UAE aim to double their trade exchanges to $200 billion by 2032. The two nations also reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation in strategic sectors such as food security, infrastructure, finance, emerging technologies, and artificial intelligence.

The parties agreed to collaborate on the establishment of a series of supercomputers in India, explore data centers, and develop a joint space system focused on mutual missions and marketing space technology.

In the field of defense and security, New Delhi and Abu Dhabi emphasized the robustness of their existing cooperation, noting the regular conduct of joint military exercises and signing a letter of intent to establish a strategic partnership in this area.
