China Warns Against “Law of the Jungle” Policy
Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng stated yesterday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that his country advocates for multilateralism and opposes a return to the “law of the jungle” in international relations.
He added that amid international and trade tensions, “a few privileged countries should not benefit from advantages based solely on their interests, and the world cannot return to the law of the jungle where the strong attack the weak.”
He considered that “the unilateral actions and trade agreements made by some countries clearly violate the fundamental principles and rules of the World Trade Organization and severely impact the global economic and trade system.”
He called for the defense of multilateral institutions with necessary reforms and for the protection of free trade, as the international trading system “faces its most serious challenges in years.”
