Nizar Baraka Reveals Details of the Ourika Tunnel Project Connecting Marrakech to the Southeast

Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment and Water, announced that the new project involves the construction of the Ourika tunnel to connect the city of Marrakech with other regions in the southeast, replacing the Tichka tunnel after confirming it as the most suitable option, spanning approximately 10 kilometers.

During his address at the House of Representatives, Baraka explained that the location of the Ourika tunnel was selected following a thorough study of various possible alternatives, aimed at ensuring the project’s safety and its effectiveness in enhancing road connectivity and facilitating traffic flow.

The government official noted that the ministry has completed several preliminary studies and is currently preparing the final basic study, which will determine the geological conditions of the area and clarify the best techniques and methods for safely and effectively constructing the tunnel.

The Minister of Equipment and Water emphasized that this project falls within the overall strategy for developing national infrastructure and enhancing connectivity for mountainous and remote areas. He highlighted that the Ourika tunnel will help reduce the distance and travel time between Marrakech and the southeast, supporting the economic and tourist dynamics of these regions.
