Bahrain Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Western Sahara and Considers Autonomy a Realistic Solution

Manama – The Kingdom of Bahrain has reiterated its steadfast support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco, viewing it as a realistic and viable solution to settle this regional dispute.

This position was stated in a joint statement issued during the official visit of the President of the House of Advisors, Mohamed Wali El Rashid, to the Kingdom of Bahrain from January 12 to 16, 2026, at the invitation of the Chairman of the Shura Council of Bahrain, Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh. Bahrain welcomed the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, issued on October 31, 2025, considering it an important step toward reaching a practical and sustainable solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.

The statement clarified that this visit is part of efforts to enhance the distinguished fraternal relations and cooperation between the two kingdoms, in line with the high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, may God protect them.

Both sides affirmed that the discussions held during the visit reflected the deep historical ties and solid fraternal relations between Bahrain and Morocco, based on solidarity, mutual respect, and continuous coordination on matters of common interest, while praising the advanced level of bilateral relations and the role of the legislative institutions in supporting parliamentary cooperation and enhancing parliamentary diplomacy.

In this context, the Chairman of the Shura Council emphasized that the fraternal relations and close cooperation between the two kingdoms embody a solid partnership and a shared destiny, praising Morocco’s efforts in promoting Arab and African parliamentary coordination and hosting parliamentary dialogue and constructive meetings.

For his part, the President of the House of Advisors commended Bahrain’s role at the Asian continent level and its contributions to enhancing regional parliamentary work, appreciating its assumption of the presidency of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly starting January 2026, and expressing confidence that this presidency would provide a strong impetus to enhance Asian parliamentary cooperation.

He also expressed Morocco’s desire to work collaboratively to build bridges of parliamentary cooperation between Africa and Asia and to promote South-South dialogue, in line with common challenges and to contribute to establishing peace and development.

Both parties confirmed their intention to strengthen cooperation between the Shura Council of Bahrain and the Moroccan House of Advisors by activating joint working mechanisms, increasing mutual visits, and enhancing coordination within regional and international parliamentary forums, to serve common issues and the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples for further progress and prosperity.

The President of the House of Advisors is accompanied on this visit by a delegation that includes several officials and members of the House.
