A French citizen, aged 32, was apprehended on Tuesday, January 20, at Marrakech Menara Airport on suspicion of involvement in forgery and the international drug trade.
The suspect was detained by border police while allegedly in possession of and using a forged passport. Authorities conducted investigations, including a technical search of his mobile phone, which revealed digital traces reinforcing suspicions of his connection to organized criminal activity related to the international drug trade.
Checks on the suspect in the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) database indicated that he is wanted internationally under a red notice requested by the National Central Bureau in Paris, following a definitive judicial ruling against him related to a kidnapping and violent hostage-taking incident amid feuds between criminal networks involved in drug trafficking.
The suspect has been subject to police custody while the investigation continues under the supervision of the relevant judicial authorities to uncover all circumstances and details surrounding the case and to identify all criminal acts attributed to him.
In this context, the National Central Bureau “Interpol Rabat,” under the General Directorate of National Security, has been tasked with notifying its French counterpart about the arrest, in preparation for processing the extradition file according to established legal procedures.
This arrest aligns with Moroccan security forces’ commitment to enhancing international security cooperation, particularly regarding tracking and apprehending individuals sought internationally and combating transnational organized crime.
