A responsible source from the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication has clarified recent rumors regarding the alleged “displacement” of valuable books and documents from the public library and archives in Tetouan. The source confirmed that this is merely a temporary technical measure as part of a comprehensive plan to protect the library’s cultural assets.
The source emphasized that the transfer involved only some secondary contents and that the process was temporary, relocating materials to a secure facility within the same sector, coinciding with ongoing maintenance and restoration work at the library.
According to the same clarifications, this procedure is fundamentally aimed at preventing any potential damage to the contents during the restoration works and allowing the contracted company to carry out repairs in suitable conditions, without exposing the books and documents to any risks.
The source noted that the regional directorate for the culture sector in Tangier had initiated maintenance and restoration work at the library located on Mohammed V Street in Tetouan several weeks ago. It added that the transfer of materials was conducted under strict conditions, including treatment and registration of all items moved, which were placed in thick cardboard boxes designated for this purpose.
The source stressed that the operation was carried out under the direct supervision of library staff and in full coordination with the overseeing administration, adhering entirely to established standards in the field of conservation and protection of cultural assets, firmly denying any infringement on the essence of the documentary heritage or a threat to its cultural status.
