The House of Poetry in Marrakech celebrates International Arabic Language Day with the Magic of Rhymes
The House of Poetry in Marrakech is hosting a new night in its cultural program “The Magic of Rhymes” on Friday, December 26, at the House’s space in Daoudiate Cultural Center at 4:30 PM, as part of the events celebrating International Arabic Language Day.
The festivities begin with artist Lahcen Fersawi leading a workshop on “Arabic Calligraphy,” aimed at beneficiaries of the ninth cohort of poetry writing workshops. He will present a practical session that reflects his rich experience in calligraphy, benefiting from his long-standing expertise, which earned him the Mohammed VI Prize for Calligraphic Art in 2023. This workshop, open to the public, aims to introduce the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy and the art of letterforms through detailed explanations and practical applications, emphasizing the interconnection of art and poetry in contemporary Moroccan culture.
A number of prominent poets will participate in “The Magic of Rhymes” celebration, including poet and researcher Aziza Laamiri, who is recognized as a distinguished voice in the Moroccan poetry scene and has discussed her thesis on classical poetry. Poet Abdelatif Khoussi will read new texts dedicated to the Arabic language on its international day, blending classical poetry with Malhoun poetry.
The presence of Nigerian poet Adeyemi Hamid Adikunle, who is pursuing his studies in Morocco and recently won the “Best Poem” award for young poets, adds an international flavor to the program, underscoring Morocco’s role as a poetic and cultural hub attracting Arab and global talents.
Thus, the program “The Magic of Rhymes” continues to write the narrative of poetry and poets and reaffirms the House of Poetry in Marrakech’s commitment to the ongoing celebration of the Arabic language and its charm through the fusion of poetry, art, and calligraphy, presenting diverse cultural experiences that enrich the local and Arab artistic and literary scene.
