The High Atlas Under a White Cover: Imilchil and Boumalne Dades Among Areas Affected by Record Snowfall

Several mountainous regions in Morocco have experienced significant snowfall in the past 24 hours, continuing into the morning of Sunday, December 14, 2025. These snowfalls were primarily concentrated in the high peaks of the High Atlas and Eastern Atlas, where some areas recorded substantial snow thickness, particularly in the provinces of Wrzazat and Tinghir.

According to data from the Moroccan meteorological authorities, the highest amount of snow was recorded in the province of Wrzazat, where the snow depth reached 50 centimeters at the peaks in both Tighli–Imi Nolaoun and Khzama, while on the slopes, it ranged between 2 and 7 centimeters. The Amzri–Imi Nolaoun area recorded about 40 centimeters at the peaks and 30 centimeters on the slopes. Snowfall reached 40 centimeters at the peaks in both Sirwa and Tidili, with 10 centimeters on the slopes in Tidili. In the Igrm Nokkdal area, about 35 centimeters was registered at the peaks and 11 centimeters on the slopes, while the snowfalls in Tlalwat did not exceed 4 centimeters at the peaks.

In the province of Tinghir, several areas also witnessed notable snowfall; Iknoun recorded approximately 40 centimeters at the peaks and 20 centimeters on the slopes, while Missmerir saw about 30 centimeters at the peaks and 12 centimeters on the slopes. Boumalne Dades noted around 10 centimeters on the slopes, whereas the snowfall in the Ait Hani area did not exceed 2 centimeters.

As for the province of Midelt, the snowfall in Imilchil was about 25 centimeters at the peaks and 15 centimeters on the slopes, while Tounfit recorded approximately 5 centimeters at the peaks and 3 centimeters on the slopes. In other areas, 3 centimeters on the slopes was logged in Agbalu Nkrdous in the province of Errachidia, and 2 centimeters at the peaks of Jbel Bounasser in the province of Jerzef.

In conclusion, Moroccan authorities have urged citizens and road users to exercise extreme caution while traveling through mountainous routes, given the recorded snow thickness and the possibility of frost formation, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety instructions and ensuring proper preparation before traveling under these conditions.
