The dollar maintains its gains

The dollar has retained its gains against major counterparts today, Thursday, as markets await decisions from central banks in the UK, Eurozone, and Japan.

The dollar index, which measures the performance of the US currency against a basket of currencies, including the yen and euro, remained unchanged at 98.35 after rising by 0.2 percent in the previous session, while the euro steadied at 1.1743 dollars.

The British pound also held steady at 1.3373 dollars after a decline of 0.4 percent on the previous day.

The Japanese yen recouped some of its previous session losses as the Bank of Japan began a two-day meeting, which is expected to result in interest rate hikes to their highest level in three decades. The yen rose by 0.2 percent against the dollar to 155.45 after dropping by 0.6 percent on Wednesday.

The Australian dollar registered at 0.6600 dollars, reflecting a decline of 0.1 percent during early trading.

The New Zealand dollar was traded at 0.5763 dollars, down 0.20 percent, largely ignoring data showing the New Zealand economy returning to growth in the third quarter.

In the cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin rose by 0.3 percent to 86,240.24 dollars, while Ether increased by 0.6 percent to 2,835.64 dollars.
