The administration of the central Moulay Berkeh prison clarifies the circumstances surrounding a video circulated on Facebook, attributed to the mother of inmate (D.H), which included allegations regarding her son’s mental health struggles and claims of pressure from staff and provocation by other inmates.
In its clarifications, the administration confirmed that the inmate in question is under regular medical supervision within the prison clinic, managed by a specialist in neurology and psychiatry, emphasizing that his health condition is addressed according to the medical regulations in place within the institution.
Regarding the allegations of pressure from staff, the administration categorically denied these claims, stating that the individual is known for his misconduct and aggression, with a history of self-harm. It noted that he does not adhere to the established organizational rules, particularly concerning keeping the door of the shared room closed.
Concerning the inmate’s relationship with his mother, the prison administration stated that her involvement is limited to depositing funds for him to purchase basic necessities without visiting him, in order to avoid any disrespectful behavior towards her. Additionally, they mentioned that his mother had previously stated her son suffers from schizophrenia and expressed a desire for him to receive psychological treatment before his release.
The administration concluded its statement by reiterating its commitment to upholding applicable laws and ensuring necessary medical and psychological care for all inmates while countering what it described as misinformation that tarnishes the image of the institution and its staff.
