Rabat.. The Public Prosecution denies the arrest of individuals from the families of “victims of the Qliya events.”
This evening, the Public Prosecution at the Court of First Instance in Rabat announced that reports circulating on social media regarding the “arrest of individuals from the families of the victims of the Qliya events” are unfounded. It emphasized that the actual events were entirely different from what has been circulated.
The prosecutor clarified that a group of individuals residing in Qliya staged an unauthorized demonstration in front of Parliament on December 9, where they hung banners on the iron fencing of the legislative institution. Following this, public security forces intervened peacefully, asking the protesters to disperse and leave the area in compliance with the applicable legal provisions.
However, the protesters did not respond to the request, which necessitated their transfer to the competent judicial police department, where they were—according to sources from the Public Prosecution—guided on the appropriate legal procedures for expressing their demands, before being released immediately.
The prosecutor confirmed that the operation did not involve any actions that infringe upon the freedom of those involved, as no one was placed under preventive custody, nor was any arrest order issued, leaving the posts on some platforms as “mere claims that do not reflect the reality of what occurred.”
