The Central Committee responsible for activating the fund to promote women’s representation organized an informational and awareness day in Rabat today.
This meeting aimed to highlight the fund’s operational methods and to remind participants of the regulatory amendments it has undergone since its establishment, particularly in terms of organizational and structural aspects, with the goal of improving services and expediting file management procedures.
The event was chaired by Samir Mohamed Tazi, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Interior, in his capacity as President of the Central Committee, and attended by committee members and representatives from civil society associations from various regions of the kingdom. A comprehensive presentation was made, showcasing accumulated experiences and expertise, along with the results achieved in managing the fund since its inception.
Alongside the announcement of the launch of the eleventh edition of the fund’s project proposals, themed “For a Strong Female Presence and Increasing Women’s Representation in Upcoming Elections,” this edition was marked by an unprecedented increase in the annual budget allocated to the fund to 20 million dirhams, doubling the budget approved in previous years.
This budget increase reflects the fund’s effectiveness as a support mechanism aimed at enhancing women’s political participation, contributing to the establishment of a culture of equality and equal opportunity, particularly with upcoming electoral contests on the horizon. The fund aims to broaden the base of beneficiaries, especially in areas where women’s political participation is lacking.
As part of the implementation of the administrative decentralization initiative adopted by the Ministry of Interior, the provisions governing the fund have been reviewed to transfer several powers from the central to the regional level. This aims to bring this mechanism closer to the relevant organizations and associations and to facilitate project implementation processes, alongside the establishment of regional units to oversee the fund’s operations at the levels of provinces and localities.
A modern digital vision has also been adopted to manage project proposal files throughout various stages of support and execution, alongside updates to the fund’s website through the renewal of its sections and enriching its content to ensure ease of access and swift usage.
It is noteworthy that the fund to encourage women’s representation was established in 2009 under the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, to enhance women’s capacities and facilitate their integration into national political and electoral life, in line with royal directives aimed at empowering Moroccan women and affirming the principle of equality and parity.
The fund remains open to projects submitted by political parties and their local branches, as well as active civil society associations in the field of strengthening women’s representative capacities and local governance. Since its establishment, the fund has launched 10 project calls, enabling the financing of over 690 projects across various regions of the kingdom.
