Morocco’s fruit and vegetable exports to Spain soar by 34% to reach €952 million

Official data from the Spanish Federation of Exporters and Producers of Fruits and Vegetables (FEPEX) indicates that Morocco has reinforced its position as the leading supplier of fruits and vegetables to Spain, with export values amounting to €952.6 million by the end of August 2025, marking a 34% increase compared to the same period last year.

The report highlighted that the volume of Moroccan exports to Spain reached 416,559 tons, also reflecting a similar annual increase of 34%, making Morocco the top supplier to Spain by value and the second by volume. These exports represent approximately 26% of Spain’s total fruit and vegetable imports, which amounted to €3.701 billion during the same timeframe.

The report noted that Morocco accounts for about 38% of Spain’s fruit and vegetable imports from non-EU countries, affirming its status as a key strategic trade partner for the Spanish market.

FEPEX emphasized that the increase in Moroccan imports signifies a remarkable improvement in the quality of agricultural products, along with an expansion into high added-value markets, benefiting from the modernization of the agricultural sector in Morocco and enhanced logistical capabilities, as well as its geographical proximity to Europe.

Conversely, the Spanish organization warned that the expansion of trade agreements between the European Union and Morocco to include Western Sahara could exacerbate pressures on European producers, particularly in the tomato sector, due to existing disparities in health, environmental, and social standards between Moroccan and Spanish production.

Data shows that Morocco has managed to increase its export volume to Spain by 8% between 2021 and 2025, while its export value rose by 58%, reflecting improved competitiveness and strengthening its position as a key partner for Spain in the fruits and vegetables sector.
