Morocco solidifies its global leadership in the avocado market with record exports exceeding 112,000 tons.

Morocco is continuing to enhance its strategic position on the global avocado market, registering unprecedented growth during the 2024/2025 marketing season, which saw consecutive record figures highlighting the rapid development of this sector. A recent report from the market tracking platform “EastFruit” revealed that Moroccan exports surged to 112,000 tons between September 2024 and August 2025, doubling the previous season’s record and confirming the Kingdom’s success in rapidly increasing its export capacity.

Financially, these exports managed to surpass the $300 million mark for the first time, making avocados a significant player in Morocco’s agricultural export system as they accounted for over 10% of total hard currency fruit revenues. This product has risen to become the third most exported fruit from the Kingdom, following only mandarins and watermelons, solidifying its status as a new economic driver that contributes to enhancing the agricultural trade balance.

In reviewing the season details, January witnessed a peak in export activity with shipments reaching nearly 32,600 tons, a substantial amount surpassing the total exports for the entire 2019/2020 season. The high-quality “Hass” variety dominated most of these shipments, benefiting from increasing international demand. While Spain maintained its position as the primary destination for Moroccan avocados with almost 35% market share, this current season is noted for significant expansion into other markets like France and the Netherlands, alongside strong breakthroughs into new territories.

Canada emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets, with imports of Moroccan avocados multiplying several times. Simultaneously, there were notable increases in exports directed to Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland. This expansion extended to Arab and regional markets, with continuous growth in sales to the UAE and Mauritania, and the resumption of exports to the Turkish market, raising the number of countries importing Moroccan avocados to 27. This success illustrates the effectiveness of the strategy to diversify markets and reduce reliance on traditional destinations.
