Meknes Launches Intensive Campaign to Raise Awareness of Violence Against Women
Recently, several awareness activities were organized in Meknes as part of the communication efforts related to the phenomenon of violence against women and the promotion of a culture of equality.
These initiatives, launched by the Regional Directorate for National Solidarity, are part of the National Campaign 2025 to combat violence against women and girls, running from November 25 to December 10.
The activities aimed at enhancing the culture of equality, rejecting violence, and protecting women’s rights at the local level, in line with the strategy of the Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, and in harmony with the national dynamics aimed at advancing the social state.
The activities primarily included awareness sessions within social protection institutions, youth centers, and educational institutions, alongside thematic workshops addressing forms of gender-based violence, women’s rights, and institutional mechanisms for assisting victims.
Efforts were also focused on fostering dialogue with women and young people to encourage reporting cases of violence and raise awareness of rights, as well as conducting communication campaigns through visual media and local press.
This communication initiative culminated in a roundtable held last Friday under the slogan “For Aligning National Legislation with Principles of Equality and Parity,” with the participation of judges, lawyers, academics, representatives from the local scientific council, the Ombudsman institution, the Social Development Agency, and members of civil society.
The discussion highlighted challenges related to gender-based violence, shortcomings in the current legal framework, and the pathways to align national legislation with constitutional principles of equality and parity within a participatory approach and coordination among various local stakeholders.
According to the organizers, this campaign has contributed to raising awareness in the Meknes province, bringing services closer to citizens, and instilling a culture of respect, prevention, and protection.
