Jordan Advances to Arab Cup Semifinals After Hard-Fought Victory Over Iraq
The Jordanian national team secured a spot in the semifinals of the Arab Cup after defeating Iraq 1-0 in a strong match held at the Education City Stadium on Friday, December 12, 2025, as part of the tournament’s quarter-finals taking place in Qatar.
Both teams displayed a competitive spirit from the outset, exchanging attacks and repeated attempts without finding the back of the net, until Ali Alwan scored the winning goal from a penalty kick in the 41st minute, giving Jordan a lead heading into halftime.
The second half saw increased pressure and pace from Iraq, but the Jordanian defense remained steadfast, with the goalkeeper excelling in thwarting several dangerous opportunities, allowing the “Nashama” to advance after ninety minutes of resilience and determination.
Jordan will face Saudi Arabia in the semifinals, who qualified after defeating Palestine 2-1 after extra time, while the Moroccan team also secured their passage by winning against Syria 1-0 at Khalifa International Stadium.
