At least 16 people were killed and several others injured in a bus accident that occurred Monday morning on a highway in Indonesia’s Java Island, according to a rescue agency official.
The official from the local search and rescue agency explained that a public transport bus was navigating a bend at high speed before crashing into a barrier and overturning. The bus was en route from Jakarta to Yogyakarta.
Transport accidents are common in Indonesia, where vehicles are often old, and drivers frequently disregard traffic laws.
In 2019, at least 35 people died after a bus fell into a ravine on Sumatra Island.
