Basma Association for Culture and Development Opens Public Discussion on the Role of Sports Associations in Local Development in Kalaat Es-Sraghna
On the occasion of the Kingdom of Morocco hosting the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, the Basma Association for Culture and Development organized a notable intellectual and cultural seminar at the Fans Zone in Dar Chabab Hman Fahtouki. This event was part of its official partnership with the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication – Youth Sector in Kalaat Es-Sraghna, contributing significantly to the success of the “Once Upon a Time” initiative through participation in its organization and coordination.
This cultural and sporting occasion provided a genuine opportunity to enhance the visibility of the city and link major sporting events with local development objectives. The association opted to operate within the framework of “Let’s Discuss,” reinforcing the culture of dialogue and exchanging ideas and experiences, aimed at fostering community awareness among the city’s youth and effectively engaging them in collective thinking about development issues.
In this context, the association invited a number of professors, sports professionals, and civil society activists to enrich this cultural celebration through a seminar titled: “The Role of Associations in Local Development: The Model of Sports Associations.”
The seminar aimed to explore how sports associations can contribute to enhancing local development by promoting health, building community ties, refining values, and providing recreational and youth development spaces, alongside discussing the importance of these associations in the local fabric, the challenges they face, and the opportunities available to strengthen their positive impact within the Sraghna community specifically.
The seminar was guided by a selection of varied competencies and expertise, including:
Mr. Mohamed Lachehb, a graduate of the Royal Institute for Youth and Sports Training, former director of the Regional Center for Educational and Training Professions in Kalaat Es-Sraghna, and a former player for several national clubs, including Fath, Wydad Sraghna, Ittihad Inzikan, and Hassania Agadir, in addition to his experience as a coach for several local and regional teams.
Dr. Saïd Akhi, director of the Center for Open Education and Training in Kalaat Es-Sraghna, presented a contribution focusing on the educational and cultural aspects of sports associations.
Along with Rahal Raji, president of the Fath Sraghna team, who provided a field reading on the reality of sports associations and the management constraints, and Othmane Rafi’i, a civil activist and goalkeeper coach for both Ajax Sraghna and Fath Sraghna teams, who addressed the role of sports training in shaping talents and protecting youth.
The seminar concluded by affirming that sports associations represent a true lever for local development, provided they are supported through adequate resources, guidance, and partnerships. It was emphasized that investing in sports is investing in people and the future of the city.
This initiative once again highlights the Basma Association for Culture and Development’s commitment to the national dynamics surrounding the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, linking sports with culture, dialogue, and development, and placing youth at the heart of conscious and responsible community action.
