Asfi: Emergency Meeting to Activate Urgent Measures to Mitigate Flood Impact
Today, an emergency meeting was held at the Prefecture of Asfi in response to the exceptional rainfall and flooding that occurred in the city, resulting in varying degrees of human and material losses.
The meeting, chaired by the Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Khalid El Habib, was attended by the Governor of Asfi, Mohammed Ftah, the Regional Council President, as well as regional security authorities and officials from relevant decentralized services. The gathering focused on assessing the general situation in the city and its repercussions on the affected population.
A key topic of discussion was the evaluation of the damage across various neighborhoods inundated by floodwaters. Participants deliberated on a package of urgent measures aimed at alleviating the effects of the floods, ensuring citizens’ safety, and protecting their properties.
Meeting participants emphasized the necessity for comprehensive mobilization of human and logistical resources, enhancing coordination among all stakeholders, maintaining a high level of vigilance, and implementing effective measures to address the impacts of this disaster promptly, along with providing necessary support and assistance to those affected.
According to local authorities, the death toll from the severe thunderstorms that struck the region on Sunday night has risen to 37, due to sudden and powerful flash floods.
Public authorities, civil protection services, and law enforcement are continuing to conduct field operations, search and rescue missions, and provide essential medical care and support to impacted residents.
