Rachid Talbi Alami: Sports as a Catalyst for Development and Infrastructure in Morocco
Rachid Talbi Alami, President of the Moroccan House of Representatives, emphasized that the Kingdom aims to turn hosting continental and international sports events into opportunities for developing infrastructure and public services. He noted that the Moroccan model is not unique, with successful international examples available for inspiration.
This statement was made by Talbi Alami on Thursday morning during the opening of the International Forum on Sports, organized by the first parliamentary chamber. He pointed out that sporting events have become milestones for stimulating infrastructure, modernizing equipment, attracting investments, boosting tourism, and highlighting Moroccan culture and history.
The President of the House of Representatives explained that sports embody essential human values since their inception, such as familiarity, tolerance, peace, and openness—values that characterize the Moroccan people and their rich history spanning thousands of years.
He highlighted that the royal attention to sports and athletes has fueled Moroccans’ passion for engaging in sports, particularly football, which has become a part of public culture and unites citizens around their national teams. He added that national sports revival is marked by creativity and adapts to international standards and modern economic models.
Talbi Alami stressed that the achievements in athletics, football, equestrian sports, golf, and others were not coincidental but instead the result of a clear vision, organization, training, incentives, and supportive policies for sports facilities.
He asserted that the Kingdom is keen on establishing human values in sports and integrating them into education, noting that the Moroccan sports renaissance belongs to the African continent. He pointed out that the development and quality of sports facilities, as well as their accessibility to citizens, especially youth, constitute part of public policies aimed at achieving a sports renaissance in a rights-based, developmental, and humanitarian context.
The President of the House of Representatives also discussed the National Sports Conference held in Skhirat in 2008 under royal patronage, mentioning that the royal message at that time stimulated sports achievements and reinforced national belonging, alongside elevating Morocco’s profile at both the continental and international levels.
