Dr. Mohamed Abu El-Ela, head of the Egyptian national team’s medical staff, announced the injuries sustained by players Mohamed Hamdy and Mostafa Mohamed during the match against Zimbabwe. This match was part of the first round of Group B in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco, which ended in a 2-1 victory for the Pharaohs.
Mohamed Hamdy left the match in the 81st minute to be replaced by Ahmed Fattouh, while Mostafa Mohamed felt an injury before the final whistle. Abu El-Ela confirmed that scans revealed Hamdy suffered contusions and a hematoma in his pelvic bones, while Mostafa Mohamed sustained an ankle sprain.
The medical staff indicated that both players will undergo an intensive rehabilitation program, hoping they will be fit for the upcoming match against South Africa next Friday in the second round, where the Egyptian team shares the top position in Group B with Bafana Bafana, each earning 3 points.
