AASLM Launches a New Phase of the Marchica Project to Enhance Economic and Regional Development in Nador
The Board of Directors of the agency responsible for rehabilitating the Marchica Lagoon site (AASLM) convened in Rabat to outline the new phase of the Marchica project. This step is designed to enhance the economic and regional appeal of the Nador province, along with new funding to support project implementation.
The meeting was chaired by Nadia Fettah, during which the achievements of the first phase of the project, which took place from 2014 to 2020, were reviewed, and priorities for the next phase were established. This phase aims to accelerate infrastructural projects, boost private investment, and solidify a sustainable and inclusive regional development model.
The council also approved a budget allocation of 900 million dirhams for the period 2026–2027, co-funded by the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This funding will be invested in projects with significant impact, focusing on environmental protection, social and economic inclusion, and infrastructure improvement, particularly in regional connectivity, logistics, and digitization.
These measures are intended to enhance the overall attractiveness of the region and support its repositioning on the national and regional levels.
Additionally, the council praised the efforts made by the agency in terms of internal restructuring, transparency, and governance, urging continued development of the institutional model and strategic repositioning of the project by 2026.
Regarding the branch of Marchica Med SA, the council noted financial progress, particularly through structural improvements and the implementation of a medium-term plan for 2025–2032, with expectations for private investments to reach 1.4 billion dirhams in 2025, paving the way for better financial prospects starting from 2026.
