A bullet halts an alleged assault on police in Youssoufia near an educational institution
A police officer in Youssoufia was forced to use his service weapon during a security intervention on Wednesday, December 3, to apprehend a 44-year-old man with a criminal record. The suspect was in an altered state and refused to comply with police instructions, resorting to a serious attack by throwing stones at them.
The incident began when a patrol from the team responsible for securing educational institutions spotted the suspect behaving suspiciously near a school. However, he violently confronted the police officers, prompting the chief police officer to fire a warning shot, followed by another shot that hit the suspect in the lower limbs to neutralize the threat.
The intervention resulted in the control of the suspect, who was found with a blade and a piece of hashish before being taken to the hospital for necessary medical attention under supervision.
The competent public prosecutor is overseeing the ongoing investigations to reveal the circumstances and background of the incident, while preliminary data indicates that the individual had previously undergone a psychiatric hospitalization in the local hospital’s mental health department in 2017.
