The United Kingdom and the European Union Renew Their Commitment to a Strategic Partnership to Enhance Europe’s Security and Stability
The United Kingdom and the European Union have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership and solidifying their relations to serve mutual interests, as announced by the UK government on Wednesday.
This position came following a phone call between UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, during which both sides emphasized their desire to move toward “broad and constructive” relations that benefit both parties, along with the continued implementation of the agenda agreed upon during the UK-EU summit held in London last May.
Starmer underscored the importance of reaching tangible agreements that benefit British citizens and contribute to enhancing Europe’s security, noting that close cooperation between the two sides is a cornerstone for stability on the continent.
The first bilateral summit since the UK’s departure from the EU established a foundation of understanding on issues of peace and security and stability in the continent, opening the door for a new strategic partnership between London and Brussels.
In this context, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to shared values and their willingness to enhance bilateral cooperation amid the geopolitical challenges facing the world.
