The implementation of the new criminal procedure has sparked a comprehensive mobilization within the Public Prosecution in Casablanca.
A high-level coordination meeting was held at the Criminal Court in Casablanca, chaired by the Attorney General, Mr. Mohamed Zawaki, attended by officers from the Royal Gendarmerie and deputy attorneys. This gathering aimed to ensure the effective application of the new criminal procedure and to enhance the efficiency of the justice system.
The meeting served as a central point for aligning perspectives between the Public Prosecution and judicial police, with the goal of guaranteeing adherence to the provisions of the new law while addressing practical shortcomings that could jeopardize the integrity of legal procedures or compromise their neutrality.
During the meeting, Attorney General Mohamed Zawaki urged the judicial police officers to carefully review the new legal and constitutional updates, emphasizing the need for vigilance to avoid any technical errors that could arise in court. Deputy Attorney General Mr. Jamal El-Harour discussed practical issues related to translation during interrogations of foreigners, highlighting the necessity of finding practical solutions to prevent any potential procedural violations.
In a related context, the meeting addressed challenges associated with ports and airports, particularly regarding smuggled goods, counterfeit products, confiscation procedures, and the difficulties related to implementing national search warrants and border closures for those wanted by justice.
A representative from the regional command of the Royal Gendarmerie in Casablanca underscored the importance of regular meetings in evaluating performance and rectifying flaws, noting that the supreme command of the Royal Gendarmerie places great significance on continuous training, which was evidenced by a recent training course held on November 4 at the Gendarmerie Center in Ben Slimane.
These discussions revealed that the current phase represents a real test of the readiness of various stakeholders to implement the new criminal procedure, ensuring the effectiveness of judicial investigations while safeguarding rights and freedoms and achieving legal security.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to fully implement the new legal updates in line with a robust institutional vision that meets the expectations of citizens.
