The Moroccan national team has secured its spot in the Round of 16 at the Under-17 World Cup held in Qatar 2025, after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over the United States. The match took place on Friday at the Mansour Muftah Stadium in Aspire Zone, Doha, as part of the Round of 32.

The Atlas Cubs entered the match with high hopes of progression, but the American team started strongly, scoring its first goal early in the 21st minute through player Jude Tyree, putting Morocco in the position of needing to equalize. Despite the national team’s efforts to level the score, the first half ended with the United States leading 1-0.

In the second half, both teams exchanged attacks, showcasing brilliant performances from both goalkeepers, with neither side able to threaten the other’s net for long stretches. As the match neared its conclusion, player Abdallah Wazan struck in the 90th minute with a decisive shot inside the box, bringing the match back into balance and leading the Cubs into extra time, which saw no additional goals, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.

During the penalty shootout, the Moroccan side displayed focus and determination, ultimately achieving victory and securing their ticket to the Round of 16, where they will face Mali, who advanced by defeating Zambia 3-1.

This victory reflects the strength and resilience of the Atlas Cubs, showcasing their ability to rally in challenging matches. It also provides them with a significant morale boost ahead of their upcoming challenges in the tournament.
