Political parties praise King Mohammed VI’s participatory approach to elaborating and updating the autonomy initiative for the Moroccan Sahara.
This statement came following a meeting chaired by King Mohammed VI’s advisors, Mr. Tayeb Fahsi El-Fihri, Omar Azziman, and Fouad Ali El-Himma, with national party leaders. This meeting, initiated under the King’s instructions, focused on the updating and detailing of the autonomy initiative within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, emphasizing His Majesty’s commitment to involving parties in major national issues.
Aziz Akhannouch, President of the National Rally of Independents, stated that the meeting provided an opportunity to express gratitude to the King for his tradition of consulting parties on critical matters. He indicated that his party would develop a vision for the future of the national cause, in line with Security Council Resolution 2797.
Fatima Zahra Mansouri, Coordinator of the Collective Leadership of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, reiterated the party’s commitment to the King’s participatory approach, praising the progress on the Moroccan Sahara dossier and UN Resolution 2797, affirming that the initiative is part of strengthening national sovereignty.
Nizar Baraka, Secretary-General of the Istiqlal Party, explained that the meeting was dedicated to updating and detailing the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty, noting that Morocco would present a comprehensive vision that would serve as a basis for negotiations aimed at a final resolution to the fabricated conflict over the Sahara, contributing to regional and Maghreb stability and development.
Idris Lachgar, Secretary-General of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces, emphasized the necessity for parties to present a detailed vision for the autonomy initiative, taking into account Morocco’s experience with advanced regionalization, while highlighting the King’s commitment to involving parties during this critical phase.
Mohamed Ouzzine, Secretary-General of the Popular Movement, praised the consultative and participatory nature of the meeting, asserting that the King is keen on including all stakeholders in social-oriented national issues. Meanwhile, Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, Secretary-General of the Progress and Socialism Party, called upon parties to submit precise memoranda regarding their proposals, urging the mobilization of all active forces to continue the path with confidence and determination.
Mohamed Jodar, Secretary-General of the Constitutional Union, expressed his gratitude to the King for involving parties in preparing a comprehensive memorandum on the initiative, confirming the significance of UN Resolution 2797 in supporting this pathway.
Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary-General of the Justice and Development Party, stated that parties would fully assume their responsibility in formulating a complete vision for updating and detailing the autonomy initiative. MP Nabila Mounib, representing the Unified Socialist Party, affirmed that this path would ensure the voluntary return of our compatriots from the Tindouf camps to their homeland, serving the security and stability of the Maghreb region.
