Ouarzazate: Enhancing Water Supply in Ait Zineb Center
The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water has begun implementing a structured project to strengthen water supply to the Ait Zineb center and the surrounding areas in the Ouarzazate region.
This project relies on treated surface water coming from Sultan Moulay Ali Cherif Dam via the Taznakht conveyance channel. It represents a practical response to efforts aimed at rehabilitating infrastructure in areas affected by the Al Haouz earthquake.
The project cost approximately 12 million dirhams and was executed in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank. The beneficiaries include residents of the Ait Zineb center and 14 nearby villages, totaling around 10,000 people.
The new infrastructure includes a reservoir with a capacity of 400 cubic meters, two pumping stations capable of pumping up to 1,300 cubic meters daily, along with more than 11 kilometers of water pipes, with diameters ranging from 100 to 160 millimeters.
The official inauguration of this project took place on November 18, 2025, during Independence Day celebrations, and was attended by the Governor of Ouarzazate, officials from the National Office of Electricity and Water, and the Islamic Development Bank, alongside local elected representatives and authorities.
This achievement is part of broader projects aimed at enhancing water supply in the Ouarzazate region. Earlier this year, local authorities announced an investment of 120 million dirhams to improve the drinking water supply network along the Ouarzazate-Skoura axis, which includes the construction of a 30-kilometer pipeline, pumping stations, and reservoirs, benefiting approximately 90,000 residents.
This project marks a significant turning point in improving living conditions for the population in Ait Zineb and its neighboring villages, with positive implications for the social and economic development of the region, ensuring a regular and safe supply of drinking water.
