Morocco participates in the 41st session of the “COMCEC” committee in Istanbul to enhance Islamic economic cooperation.

The 41st Ministerial Session of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) commenced today, with Morocco in attendance.

The Kingdom is represented at this meeting, which will continue until Tuesday, by Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Omar Hajiri, along with the director managing the Bayt Mal al-Quds Ash-Sharif Agency, Muhammad Saleh al-Sharqawi.

This current session, held under the theme “Developing and Improving Export Strategies in OIC Member States,” focuses on issues of intra-trade and enhancing the role of the private sector in economic cooperation. It also explores ways to deepen financial cooperation, improve transportation and communication sectors, develop sustainable tourism, and increase agricultural productivity to ensure food security.

The opening session was chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, attended by the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hissein Ibrahim Taha, along with several ministers and representatives from member states.

The session also includes side meetings dedicated to the Syrian Arab Republic, centered on reconstruction efforts and revitalizing economic activities in rural areas.

It is noteworthy that the COMCEC was established by a decision from the Third Islamic Summit in Mecca in 1981 and entered into force at the Casablanca Summit in 1984. It is the primary framework for enhancing economic and trade cooperation among the 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
