Morocco Ranks Among the Top Countries Worldwide in Climate Change Performance Index
Morocco has taken a significant step towards solidifying its position as an emerging leader in climate issues, ranking third globally in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI), trailing behind Denmark and the United Kingdom. This classification is one of the prominent international benchmarks that monitor countries’ efforts in reducing emissions and supporting pathways to sustainable development.
This remarkable progress reflects, quite frankly, the seriousness with which Morocco is addressing energy transition challenges, based on a strategic vision established by King Mohammed VI, which aims to make renewable energies a cornerstone of modernizing the development model and building a low-carbon economy.
This dynamic is evident through the national energy strategy, which aims to triple renewable electricity capacity by 2030, as part of the updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), targeting a 53% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2035.
The new ranking is not just a number; it serves as a clear indicator of Morocco’s standing among the most ambitious countries in the fight against climate change, enhancing the credibility of its environmental choices and solidifying its presence as an influential player on the international stage.
