Armed men from the Polisario Front attack Mauritanian miners in the border area of “Azkula”
Mauritania – Local sources from the “Azkula” area have revealed a serious incident that took place in the border region, where a four-wheel-drive vehicle belonging to the separatist Polisario Front penetrated Mauritanian territory. Three armed men carried out a violent attack against a group of gold miners.
According to testimonies from eyewitnesses, the assailants beat and injured the miners before brandishing an assault rifle and forcing them to evacuate the area under threat. The vehicle then withdrew towards the buffer zone, with a complete absence of any intervention from local authorities, raising widespread discontent and urgent questions about the continued leniency of concerned parties toward attacks characterized as terrorist in nature.
This development adds a new layer of tension to the increasingly frequent confrontations between Mauritanian miners and armed members of the front in a region already known for its evident security fragility along the contact line, raising fears that these attacks may become a daily reality burdening the local population and those working in the mining sector.
