French expert Emmanuel Dubois: The UN Security Council decision is a victory for Morocco and the beginning of a new phase in the Sahara

French researcher Emmanuel Dubois, Director of the European Institute for Foresight and Security, stated that the recent UN Security Council decision affirming Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara marks a crucial turning point that enhances the autonomy initiative as the only solution to the conflict, opening a new phase towards consolidating the territorial unity of the Kingdom.

Dubois explained in a statement to French media that the UN resolution came after repeated delays, but this time it carried a clear support for the Moroccan proposal, emphasizing that the autonomy initiative represents the practical solution to end a fabricated conflict that has lasted for decades.

The French researcher revealed that the United States is considering classifying the Polisario Front as a terrorist organization, which would make any dialogue with them nearly impossible, adding that international support for Morocco has surpassed Algeria’s attempts to influence the positions of major powers, including China.

Dubois noted that Morocco has chosen the path of development since regaining its southern territories in 1975, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, transforming cities like Laayoune into advanced urban models with major projects, making them the fastest-growing areas in the country.

He asserted that economic development in the Sahara has become a fundamental criterion for evaluating the situation, transcending political slogans, affirming that Moroccan investments have practically demonstrated that stability and growth are achievable on the ground.

Commenting on the Algerian stance, Dubois stated that Algeria has lost the ability to hinder the course of events, as more than 110 countries recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, urging Algeria to reconsider its regional policy and engage in genuine cooperation with Morocco to build lasting stability in the region.

The French researcher concluded that the Moroccan project has now become a realistic reference today, and that development is the compass for the future of the Sahara, indicating that current international trends are moving towards solidifying Morocco’s position as a diplomatic and security power, ending the negotiating role of the Polisario as a prelude to a final and sustainable settlement.
