Authorities in the city of Mahdia, located in the Kenitra region, are continuing their extensive campaign against shisha cafés. Recent raids at the end of last month have increased the number of cafés searched and the quantity of confiscated materials.

Sources have informed “Express TV” that the managers of these shisha cafés will be released upon payment of the amounts owed to the customs administration, in order to avoid imprisonment.

According to the obtained data, the detained café managers, following the seizure of quantities of shisha and smuggled tobacco, are required to pay significant amounts ranging from 70 to 300 million dirhams.

These arrests affected more than five individuals, including both owners and managers of the involved cafés, some of whom were placed under judicial supervision before being presented to the public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Kenitra, who ordered the extension of detention for some while awaiting resolution with customs.

Residents of several apartment buildings and residential complexes nearby are facing major issues due to the proliferation of these cafés, many of which are involved in clear violations of the licenses granted to them, in addition to the noise they create well into the early hours of the morning.
