The headquarters of the government in Rabat hosted a high-level meeting today, Thursday, chaired by the Prime Minister with a delegation of officials from the Financial Action Task Force for the Middle East and North Africa. This meeting marked the official launch of the third round of the mutual evaluation process of the national anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing system.

The visiting delegation included the current chairwoman of the group, Ms. Samia Abou Sharif, along with the vice president, the executive secretary, and officials responsible for the evaluation process. Several ministers and heads of national bodies involved in this strategic initiative also participated in the meeting.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized Morocco’s firm commitment to international standards for combating money laundering, terrorism financing, and the proliferation of weapons. He highlighted that robust coordination among various national institutions has enhanced international confidence in the Kingdom’s capabilities and the effectiveness of its system. He noted that the new evaluation round, extending until May 2028, represents a critical step in cementing Morocco’s position as a reliable partner within the global financial system.

The group chairwoman remarked that the delegation’s visit comes as part of the preparations for the evaluation expected to be conducted at the end of 2026. She underscored that Morocco has made significant reforms and substantial progress in building a credible and advanced system, particularly in legislative and regulatory modernization.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to review the results of the second round of mutual evaluation, the progress achieved during that period, and the efforts made to enhance the effectiveness of monitoring bodies and coordination among various stakeholders, in preparation for the third round. It was confirmed that Morocco is ready to closely cooperate with the group’s secretariat at all stages of the evaluation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister urged ministerial sectors and national institutions to fully mobilize to ensure the success of this international commitment and to reinforce the Kingdom’s image as a nation committed to its obligations and active in promoting international financial security.

Attending the meeting were Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi, Secretary General of the Government Mohammed Hajoui, Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah, and the Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib Abdellatif Jouahri, along with key officials representing ministries and financial oversight bodies involved in this matter.
