The Deputy Leader of the Mauritanian “Sawab” Party, Ahmed Ould Abid, considers the speech delivered by His Majesty King Mohammed VI last Friday to be a positive and open message that reflects a sincere desire to build a shared future among the peoples of the Maghreb region.
In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Ould Abid explained that the King’s call for “sincere brotherly dialogue with Algeria” embodies a sense of responsibility and wisdom, stressing that his affirmation of resolving the Moroccan Sahara issue within a framework of “no victor and no vanquished” expresses a steadfast Moroccan will to find a solution that preserves the dignity of all parties involved.
The Mauritanian politician added that United Nations Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara marks an important turning point for the Arab Maghreb Union, which is urgently needed to be revitalized in a world where regional blocs are accelerating.
He also emphasized that the resolution reaffirms the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco in 2007 as a realistic and practical basis for a solution, noting that resolving this matter will allow for a new dynamic of Maghreb cooperation and transform the region into a significant economic and social force.
Ould Abid concluded his statement by calling for the engagement of elites and the political class in the Maghreb countries to support the path of convergence and understanding, serving the interests of the peoples and their shared destiny.
