The World Bank has chosen Morocco as its new regional headquarters, a decision that reflects increasing international confidence in the kingdom and its economic and political stability. With this step, Morocco continues to enhance its position as a regional hub for international institutions, following the opening of the regional headquarters by FIFA in Rabat.
In this context, the Rabat City Council is preparing to approve the transfer of a plot of land to the state for the construction of the World Bank’s headquarters during the current October session. The land covers an area of 1,021 square meters and is located in the upscale Hay Riad neighborhood, according to council documents.
According to the project’s introductory memorandum, the transfer is part of the council’s vision to develop cooperation with international institutions and support the state’s efforts to attract major economic entities, contributing to stimulating investment and creating new development opportunities.
The transfer process will be completed by mutual consent, based on Administrative Decision No. 7095 issued on September 10, 2025, with the financial value determined by the relevant committee, in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
The opening of the World Bank’s regional office is expected to add value to the local economy by stimulating investment activity and creating new job opportunities, in addition to enhancing the status of Rabat as a city with growing regional and international prominence.
