The Parliament Strengthens Its Security Measures with a Deal for Advanced Equipment to Detect Explosives and Weapons

The House of Representatives has launched an open national tender aimed at supplying and installing X-ray surveillance equipment, in a step intended to enhance security and monitoring procedures within the legislative institution, with an estimated cost of 10 million dirhams.

According to the specifications document, the system must include high-performance inspection devices capable of detecting explosives, drugs, firearms, and metallic objects, while adhering to precise technical standards. Key requirements include a penetration capability of 31 mm, a display accuracy of up to 38 AWG, and a noise level not exceeding 75 decibels.

Required features for the device include an automatic alert system for hazardous materials, four-color imaging, the ability to manually and automatically archive images, and the recording of operational data along with date and time. The system must also be equipped with emergency stop buttons at both ends of the tunnel and high-definition display screens, as well as modern computers with uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units.

The tender also specifies the acquisition of two metal detection gates compliant with the European standard (EU Standard 2), equipped with magnetic scanning technology. Each gate operates with a dual alarm system combining visual indicators (LED) that locate the metal at human height and an adjustable sound alarm that can modify both pitch and volume.

Additional technical conditions state that detection must cover the full height of the gate from the ground, and that the devices must be protected from electromagnetic interference and noise, allowing installation within 30 cm of baggage inspection devices without affecting their performance. Complete safety for pacemaker holders and pregnant women must also be guaranteed.

The project additionally includes four handheld metal detectors equipped with individual induction chargers, designed to detect sharp or metallic weapons within parcels and mail, with programmable sensitivity levels to accurately identify types of weapons or ammunition.

The contract includes two days of field training for employees tasked with operating this equipment, along with the provision of detailed technical documentation for each trainee.
