The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has launched a nationwide campaign to raise awareness, prevent, and facilitate early detection of breast and cervical cancer. The campaign will run from October 1 to 31, 2025, aiming to enhance health awareness among women and encourage early screening as the most effective means of prevention and treatment.
The ministry indicated in its statement that breast cancer and cervical cancer remain among the most prevalent malignancies affecting women in Morocco, accounting for 39.1% and 6.5% of total recorded cancer cases, according to the latest data from the National Cancer Registry in the Casablanca-Settat region for the period from 2018 to 2021.
The campaign aims to promote prevention and early screening by highlighting the importance of regular check-ups and vaccinating girls at the age of 11 against the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is one of the leading causes of cervical cancer.
Additionally, the ministry emphasized that Morocco has established a comprehensive national system for early cancer detection in recent years, developed within the national cancer prevention and control plans (2010-2019 and 2020-2029). This has contributed to expanding health offerings and improving the quality of screening and treatment services.
As part of this initiative, 57 reference reproductive health centers and 12 regional cancer centers have been created, along with the establishment of centers of excellence in gynecological and breast oncology in both Rabat and Casablanca. Moreover, 27 mobile mammography units have been deployed to bring services closer to women in rural and remote areas.
The ministry confirmed that the success of the campaign relies on the collaboration of institutions, associations, and civil society to facilitate access to vaccination, screening, diagnosis, and treatment services, ensuring better care for women across the kingdom.
