The government approves the granting of fifth-generation licenses and announces the launch of 5G in Morocco

The government council approved three decrees concerning the granting of licenses for the establishment and operation of fifth-generation mobile networks (5G) during its meeting held yesterday, Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Rabat.

These decrees include Decree No. 2.25.876 allocated to Maroc Telecom, Decree No. 2.25.877 granted to Medi Telecom (Orange Morocco), and Decree No. 2.25.878 which licenses Wana Corporate (Inwi).

This step is part of a competitive bidding process launched by the National Agency for Telecommunications Regulation, based on Law No. 24-96 related to postal and telecommunications services, as amended and supplemented. The specifications for this operation were approved by the administrative committee established under Decree No. 2.25.565 dated July 11, 2025.

This decision marks a pivotal moment in Morocco’s communication and digital transformation strategy, as the commercial service for the fifth-generation network is expected to launch in November 2025, starting from major cities and airports before gradually expanding coverage to various areas.

This move opens new horizons for investment in telecommunications infrastructure, optical fiber, data centers, and digital services, enhancing the kingdom’s competitiveness on the African level and supporting the transition to a digital economy, smart industry, the Internet of Things, and smart cities.
