The European Union Praises the Revised Agricultural Agreement with Morocco and Confirms Strengthening of Strategic Partnership
In a move that reflects the strength of Moroccan-European relations, the European Commission confirmed on Monday that the revised agricultural agreement between Morocco and the EU is set to enhance a long-term strategic partnership between Rabat and Brussels.
The Commission explained in an official statement that this agreement aims to expand the scope of preferential treatment to include the regions of Moroccan Sahara, emphasizing that its temporary entry into force since October 3 ensures legal continuity and security for investors and economic actors.
The statement also noted that the agreement clearly stipulates the necessity to indicate production areas, such as Dakhla and Laayoune, in certificates of origin and product labeling, reaffirming that local actors will effectively benefit from its advantages.
Moreover, the Commission expressed satisfaction with what it described as the “depth of friendship” and the “robust multi-dimensional cooperation” that has developed between the sides over the years, confirming that the upcoming period will witness discussions within the EU Council and the European Parliament regarding this agreement, with both parties looking forward to deepening relations through a new strategic partnership agreement.
