The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdelatif Hammouchi, conducted an inspection visit today, Wednesday, October 29, to the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca. The purpose of the visit was to assess the readiness of the security protocol established by the Casablanca Police Department to ensure the safety of the derby match between Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca.
During a tour of the various facilities within the stadium and its surrounding areas, the Director General reviewed the security arrangements and action plans in place for this match. These included the sports safety plan designed to secure the stadium’s facilities and access points, as well as traffic management plans aimed at ensuring smooth transit throughout the city of Casablanca leading up to the stadium’s stands.
On this occasion, the Casablanca Police Chief provided a detailed presentation regarding the human resources and logistical capabilities allocated to secure the derby match, totaling over 5,000 personnel from various security specialties, police teams, and regular units. Additionally, more than 150 security vehicles were deployed, including cars, motorcycles, and crowd control trucks, alongside advanced technological surveillance capabilities such as vehicles equipped with monitoring cameras and high-precision drones.
This visit also served as an opportunity for the Director General to review the security protocols prepared for Morocco’s hosting of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, particularly regarding compliance with the security and safety standards set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This inspection is part of the ongoing preparations and readiness measures taken by the National Security services to secure various continental and international sporting events that Morocco will host in the future. It also represents a chance to showcase and evaluate the security and safety protocols in place to ensure the success of these international sporting events.
The General Directorate of National Security has long been engaged in developing a comprehensive and integrated security strategy to secure sporting competitions organized in Morocco in the near future. This includes upgrading and training sports security teams, establishing international security cooperation programs with participating countries, and implementing the “Stadia” system in collaboration with Interpol to secure and ensure the success of various continental and international sporting events.
