Morocco and Guatemala are preparing to boost their economic relations following a meeting held on Tuesday in Rabat between Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Omar Hajira, and Guatemalan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Julio Eduardo Argueta Pérez.
The discussions focused on ways to enhance trade exchange and explore new investment opportunities in promising sectors, with both sides emphasizing the complementarity of their economies, particularly in agriculture, trade, and services.
In this context, the two parties agreed to establish a joint working group tasked with preparing for an official visit to Guatemala in 2026, aimed at identifying practical avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Omar Hajira underscored Morocco’s commitment to diversifying its economic partnerships and enhancing its openness to Latin American countries, noting that the upcoming joint economic mission will contribute to strengthening diplomatic relations and encouraging private investments between the two nations.
For his part, Julio Argueta Pérez praised Morocco’s economic progress and expressed his country’s desire to build a lasting partnership with the Kingdom based on cooperation, knowledge exchange, and mutual friendship.
The meeting was attended by several Guatemalan businessmen, providing an opportunity to deepen communication between economic players from both sides and represent a new step toward establishing an effective South-South partnership grounded in economic diplomacy and shared development.
