Zekriya Al-Arousi, a judge and head of the unit monitoring the implementation of punitive measures and court decisions at the Prosecutor General’s Office, confirmed that around 193 individuals have been prosecuted in connection with acts of violence, vandalism, and incitement that recently occurred in several cities across the kingdom.
Al-Arousi explained in a press statement that a request for an investigation was submitted against 18 suspects, 16 of whom have been jailed by order of the investigating judge. Meanwhile, 19 individuals are held in custody due to the severity of their actions, while 158 others face charges while being free, with cases related to 24 others archived.
He noted that these unauthorized events involved acts of violence and vandalism, including throwing stones at public forces, destroying private and public property, setting state-owned vehicles on fire, committing thefts, and damaging facilities designated for public benefit.
The judicial official revealed the involvement of several minors who have been referred to juvenile court, adding that investigations also uncovered the dissemination of digital content on social media inciting public demonstrations, as well as broadcasting videos of protests occurring outside Morocco to mislead public opinion and generate financial gains.
He affirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining perpetrators and bring them to justice, emphasizing that the public prosecution offices are committed to ensuring the safety of citizens and their property while upholding public order, all within the framework established by law and the constitution.
